Cult director Monte Hellman (TWO-LANE BLACKTOP, THE SHOOTING) returns to the screen after a 9-year lapse with this incredibly strange picture which was shot in the heart of Spain. Based on the novel by Alberto Vazquez Figueroa (whose other books inspired the films DESERT WARRIOR, ORO ROJO, monte hellman and OCEANO), IGUANA features another cult favorite, Everett McGill (Big Ed of TWIN PEAKS' Big Ed's Gas Farm), in the lead role. McGill is Oberlus, a 19th Century sailor who is cursed with a grotesque facial deformity monte hellman and as a result is taunted with the nickname Iguana. After he is relentlessly abused monte hellman and tortured by his callous shipmates, he finds himself stranded on a deserted island. Unfortunately for a group of shipwrecked sailors, they seek refuge on Oberlus' land at a time when he's finally become fed up with the entire human race. It isn't long before he begins to wreak havoc on them, forcing two of the shipwrecked sailors, Sebastien (Michael Madsen) monte hellman and Gamboa (Fabio Testi), to stand up for their crew, saving the lives of everyone in the process. Difficult to label, IGUANA features an unsettling blend of action, gore, humor, monte hellman and drama, making it a hard-to-find, but always interesting film. The Shooting (DVD)

Monte Hellman reinvents the Western genre with THE SHOOTING, a cryptic tale of revenge that has become an underground masterpiece of existentialism. The story follows Willett Gashade (Warren Oates), an ex-bounty hunter who returns home searching for his brother, only to discover that he has disappeared. He is met by Coley (Will Hutchins), a frazzled cowboy who is recovering from having witnessed the murder of his best friend. When a beautiful but tempestuous mystery woman (Millie Perkins) arrives, Gashade reluctantly agrees to escort her through the Utah desert. Along the way, Gashade begins to suspect that she is trailing someone, which is confirmed after Billy Spear (Jack Nicholson), a ruthless bounty hunter, joins the party. Unsure of their target, Gashade monte hellman and Coley continue to inch forward, leery of Billy Spear's menacing presence. When Gashade finally discovers the hunted victim, he is left stunned monte hellman and bewildered. Hellman's subversive, enigmatic tale, shot concurrently with RIDE IN THE WHIRLWIND, assures the director a place in Western history.
